IAEG-SDGs Launches Online Consultation on Proposed Indicator Framework

The Inter-agency and Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) launched an online consultation to gather input from civil society, academia and the private sector on the development of an indicator framework for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The consultation seeks comments on the current list of proposed indicators for each Goal and target as well as cross-cutting issues of “particular importance” to the work of the IAEG-SDGs.

The consultation is open from 11 August 2015 to 7 September 2015, and is based on a consultation form available on the IAEG-SDGs website.

The document for the consultation, dated 11 August, incorporates changes brought to the SDG targets during the post-2015 intergovernmental negotiations, as included in the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development adopted at the conclusion of these negotiations on 2 August 2015. The indicators, however, remain unchanged from the version released on 7 July 2015, the IAEG notes. It also says: the list is based on inputs from international agencies and entities, and presents the assessment made by countries of the indicators that were suggested in February 2015 on the basis of their feasibility, suitability and relevance; and the list is a work in progress, and further inputs might be required during the discussions of the IAEG-SDGs.

On cross-cutting issues, comments and inputs are invited on questions related to: matching “the indicator proposed against existing major indicator frameworks, including those developed at the regional level;” developing a framework for the presentation and communication of the list of proposed indicators for global monitoring; addressing the issue of data disaggregation and other cross-cutting issues such as inequality; and identifying inter-linkages across goals and targets with the purpose of reducing the total number of indicators, using text and scientific analysis.
