In addition certain issues should be considered by the Human Rights Council, not the Commission on Crime Prevention.  There was also a reluctance to rely on UN Conventions as precedents. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime  held a High Level Event on June 9 attended by Afaf Mahfouz and Rosalind Harris (Lloyd??)  The focus was  The Rule of Law, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the UN Development Agenda Beyond 2015: Engendering a Human Rights for All  Approach.  The Alliance Chair was invited to make brief remarks during the discussion period. Has been exploring opportunities for networking and joining forces especially in preparation for the congress. Explore whether or not we can prepare events in NY city or Washington DC toward the congress. Need to come up with topics for such events and creative ideas about who to invite. NGO with government and secretariat people. What do we mean when we speak about crime? Trafficking (international crime), killing, etc. Do war crimes fit in to the Alliance work? Ros Harris – There is a lot of concern about victims. War crimes will make a difference in terms of victims. Ambassador Luis Alfonso De Alba, Permanent Representative of Mexico to the International Organizations based in Vienna on 06 February 2014. Congratulations to Dr. Afaf Mahfouz, the new Chair of the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, New York. Despite winter storms,  the Alliance held it first “blended” elections by connecting those who gathered in NYC with others calling in from Virginia, California, New Jersey and New York. The slate was presented and the elections complete. Out-going Chairperson’s Report Karen reflected on the past few years, during which she as a Chairperson of the Alliance continued to facilitate and solidify the exchanges between the Vienna Alliance, UNODC and other international organizations operating in the field of criminal and social justice, and human rights. To this end, she has built an online platform that provides an easy access to meetings documents, news, conference services and campaign facilitation. Such platform, according to Karen, allows to work around the challenges associated with time and geographic variances among participants. Moving forward, Karen suggested several online service providers that offer enhanced online capabilities. Fees, associated with these services may amount from $25 to $150 a month.
