1. Adoption of the Agenda.

Agenda was adopted unanimously.

2. Approval of November 8th 2013 Minutes

Minutes approved without changes.

3. Out-going Chairperson’s Report

Karen reflected on the past few years, during which she as a Chairperson of the Alliance continued to facilitate and solidify the exchanges between the Vienna Alliance, UNODC and other international organizations operating in the field of criminal and social justice, and human rights. To this end, she has built an online platform that provides an easy access to meetings documents, news, conference services and campaign facilitation. Such platform, according to Karen, allows to work around the challenges associated with time and geographic variances among participants.

Moving forward, Karen suggested several online service providers that offer enhanced online capabilities. Fees, associated with these services may amount from $25 to $150 a month. Karen will put together a brief proposal for various options for services that we provide for online meetings. She is happy about the online presence it will be very important in the Alliance future.

Karen expressed an importance of the Alliance presence at the UN. She invited Members to participate in conferences, network and, cointinue to reach out to others. She expressed her gratitude to Members who made such contributions in the past.

The Chairwomen noted that discussions on the Crime Congress have already begun, and encouraged Members to join online consultations or listen to recordings that are available on the Alliance website.

4.  Elections

Lloyd introduced the nominations for the Executive Comittee of the Alliance of NGO’s on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Nominations were accepted by all nominees. After the vote the following nominations were confirmed:

  4. Rosalind Harris – Treasurer

5. Welcome for the New Board

Afaf welcomed the new board and thanked for accepting nominations. She thanked personally for Karen for her work and leadership and expressed hope for her continuous support.

The Chairwomen noted that she is looking forward to the Crime Congress, and emphasized her focus on reaching out to the NGO’s in preparation for the event.

Afaf suggested to map new activities that include relevant UN bodies, with specific emphasis on the Commission on the Status of Women, set to begin in March. She also noted that Rosalind and herself are invited to be on a panel.

8. Melup Report on Recent UN Developments and Meetings

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon confirmed the appointment of Jean-Paul Laborde as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) at the Assistant Secretary-General level, following the concurrence of the Security Council.  He will succeed Mike Smith.

Kimberly Mann is in charge of Holocaust outreach programs.

Irene informed that the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, hosted the Holocaust Memorial Ceremony on the occasion of the 2014 International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. It featured a message from the United Nations Secretary-General and remarks by the President of the 68th Session of the General Assembly; Ambassador Ron Prosor, Israeli Permanent Representative to the United Nations; Ambassador Samantha Power, United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Holocaust survivor Rena Finder. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg delivered the keynote address.

She suggested to include the following names as part of the Alliance professional network:
